WCS Kryptonite win two!

The West Coast Kryptonite 07 Girls had a busy weekend with two Winter League games. Saturday they made the very long trek to Marysville to take on the Yuba Sutter Azzurri. The first half was a back and forth battle with Kryptonite trying to get a feel for the game dealing with the tremendous wind coming straight at them. Nevertheless, West Coast still managed to create opportunities with Kambrie Jehs unleashing her speed and power down the line. Yuba Sutter jumped out to a 1-0 lead towards the end of the first half but Ryan Rodriguez lasered in the equalizer. In the second half the defense of Kendall Shetter, Nylah Trias, and Madden Black tightened things up and only allowed Azzurri past half field only a few times. Piper Sweeney sent in dangerous passes, and Athena Taylor was strong with her footwork. Ella Nguyen was a beast in the middle intercepting passes and sending them up field. The Kryptonite was a powerhouse finishing their chances; Trias sent a beautiful shot into the corner of the goal, Jariah Indalecio volleyed in a shot off a Shetter corner, Skyler Patillo dribbled through traffic and slid one past the keeper, and Rodriguez sent a free kick near half field over the keepers head to finish the scoring for a 5-1 Kryptonite win. Sunday’s matchup was against the talented Inter Rage Academy at Cayetano Park in Livermore. The game started off slow for West Coast as Inter Rage put on a lot of pressure. Midway through the first half IR Academy was able to score the first goal of the game. From then on the Kryptonite defense stepped up their game. Madden Black took charge in the middle and was quite the enforcer. Ella Nguyen once again controlled the middle. Aubrey Westbrook provided some key scoring opportunities to ignite the offense. The score was 0-1 at the half with West Coast looking to regroup. Kryptonite came out firing on all cylinders and put a ton of pressure on the Inter Rage defense. Within the first eleven minutes of the second half, Kambrie Jehs, Ryan Rodriguez, and Jariah Indalecio(2), found the back of the net. Piper Sweeney continued the pressure on goal in the second while doing fantastic in the first half as keeper. Westbrook was amazing in goal in the second half with being first to every ball, and blasting her punts beyond half field. Nikki Orth played strong in the first half as an attacker and did very well as an outside back in the second. Athena Taylor was smooth with her first touch, passing, and all our effort. The Kryptonite kept battling and ended up with a 4-2 victory. Jayden Reynolds even though she is injured provided emotional support for her teammates and offered advice from the sideline. Coach Sara Girotto was super proud of their performance especially in the second half of both games. “I love how this team can make adjustments at halftime and go into the second half and be able to execute the game plan. That’s eight goals they’ve scored this weekend in the second halves of their games. Amazing job by an amazing group of girls.”
