WCS Krossfire 06G Have Strong Showing at SC Blues Cup in San Diego

West Coast’s premier 06 Girls team, Krossfire, travelled to San Diego this past weekend to compete in the SC Blues Cup tournament. This tournament had many top nationally ranked teams in attendance. Krossfire started out Saturday morning in the humidity against Real So Cal G06 White. The first half was a back and forth battle with Real getting more scoring opportunities. Jennessa Maselli was solid in goal stopping 8 shots in the first half. In the second half, Alana Albarran got Krossfire on the board knocking it in the goal. Real then put the pressure on and scored 3 goals in 4 minutes. They added one more in the final minute fo the game to beat Krossfire 4-1.

The afternoon saw Krossfire take on Beach FC LB G06 R.Perez. Beach was a dominant, physical team who got on top early against Krossfire going up 2-0 within 10 minutes. Alana was able to get one back putting Krossfire on the board, down 2-1. Beach was able to add another before half, to take the lead 3-1. The second half saw Beach come out strong, adding another goal to go up 4-1. Summer Lane was able to get one back, but Beach was too much, getting the win 5-2.

Sunday morning came with thunderstorm warnings. Krossfire only saw a little rain, but brought the thunder as they took on Sereno 06 Girls from Arizona. The Krossfire girls pushed hard, getting many scoring opportunities in the first half. They were off just a bit, but Sophia Simonds was able to take a pass from Ariana Butler and put Krossfire up 1-0. The second half saw Krossfire bring more heat. Madeline Snodgress knocked in a pass from Kendra Riddiough to put Krossfire up 2-0. An unlucky handball lead to a free kick for Sereno, who put the the ball in the net to climb back in the game. Krossfire was not to be deterred. Kendra knocked in a shot to go up 3-1. Sophia then added another goal to give Krossfire the 4-1 victory.

Krossfire played very well against some of the top teams from Southern California. They placed better than any of the other Northern California teams who competed in the U12 age group this weekend, finishing 9th in the top flight. Next up for Krossfire is the beginning of State Cup next Sunday against Impact in Livermore.
