WCS 99 Wild 1st in State Cup group play

West Coast Wild U19 Girls positioned themselves well for another state cup title run. Five time consecutive state champion West Coast Wild finish the first round of state cup as top seed. After a 4-0 win over Mustang Soccer, a 3-0 forfeit from Tahuichi FC, Wild faced the Walnut Creek FC for the top spot in the group. The game was a physical matchup by both sides but West Coast dominated the shots and opportunities to score. In first half play missed opportunities kept Walnut Creek in the game. Callie Crain’s bending shot hit the crossbar, while Sierra Martin’s long range shot was snatched out of the goal by the GK. Kylie Zentner, Amanda Zeck, Bella Barbero, and Aveena Cline secured the midfield with swift passing and good pressure as the forward line of Sara Shae, Megan Clifton, Kailee Haskins and Brianna Torres peppered Walnut Creek’s net. Solid defense led by Nailah Staples, Krissy Keller, Mayzin Kung, Regan Mah & Ali Bischof held off the oppositions counter attacks. GK Jenn Kovisto was in goal for the Wild and helped get the important shutout to advance as top seed in the state cup bracket.
