WCS 05 Wildkatz win Mustang Turf championship

West Coast Soccer WildKatz 05 Girls are on a roll posting a strong 5-0 win over DeAnza Force 05 in the first round of Norcal State Cup. Wildkatz followed up their State Cup win by knocking off the #1 & #2 ranked teams in California at the 2016 Mustang Winter Turf tournament.  West Coast Wildkatz played in the Premier Bracket of the Mustang Winter Turf Tournament that boasted 7 out of the top 10 teams in NorCal, the WildKatz took to the frosty turf to face MVLA 05 for the first game of tournament play. The WildKatz scored early in the game with a goal by Karlee Lywandowsky and held the lead throughout the game. WildKatz dominated play but with just minutes left to play, MVLA scored ending the game in a 1-1 tie.  WildKatz faced DeAnza Force EGSL in game two, West Coast scored early in the first half with goals by Lywandowsky, Katie Strong and Maddie Flask. WildKatz defense held Force scoreless throughout the game finishing with a solid 3-0 win. On day two of the tournament, Wildkatz faced #2 ranked Diablo FC in a physical and heated competition, but WildKatz prevailed with a goal by Katie Strong and held DFC scoreless to take the win 1-0 and secure a spot in the finals.  West Coast WildKatz met #1 ranked Ajax Green in the final and found themselves down 1-0 for the first time all weekend but just before the end of the half, WildKatz scored on an individual effort by Strong who tied the game at 1-1.  With 20 seconds left in play, Ajax fouled Jayden Morton outside the 18 yard box, Morton stepped up and hit a laser shot past Ajax goalkeeper and put WildKatz up 2-1 sealing the upset victory to take home the prestigious championship.  “The girls really played great it was a complete team effort with everyone doing their rolls perfectly” said Coach Marlon Fernandez. West Coast Director of Soccer Troy Dayak had this to say about Wildkatz “This is a great accomplishment for for our young 05 team to compete at this level against top notch competition, we have three strong teams in our club in this age group so it shows a glimpse of the future ahead” Next up for WildKatz is round 2 of State Cup play on January 7th in Modesto.
