WCS 05 Krush start Spring League undefeated

The West Coast Krush 05 Girls team kicked off NorCal Spring League Region 3/4 Gold this past weekend, coming away with a win and a tie.

Krush started off the weekend Saturday in Berkeley against Mavericks 05G Black. Mavericks scored the first goal of match, but minutes later Vanessa Gomez passed the ball up to Carly Singleton, whose shot found the far side of the net. Lauren Stoneberger added another goal just before the end of the half off a cross from Paisley Merlin, giving Krush a 2-1 lead. After Mavericks tied the game in the second half, Krush responded with three goals of their own. First, Singleton stole the ball from a Maverick’s defender, passing the ball to Kira Korsak, who scored Krush’s third goal of the game. Two minutes later, Singleton scored her second goal of the day on a penalty kick. Finally, Singleton once again connected with Korsak, who outran the Mavericks’ defender and sent the ball flying into the net. Final score 5-2 Krush.

Sunday, Krush faced off against Castro Valley AFC Academy 2005 Girls in a closely contested match. Both teams had several good looks at the goal, but it wasn’t until midway through the second half when Krush’s Berina Husic scored the first goal of the game with a strong shot to the far side of the net, with Korsak’s pass up to Husic earning the assist. Krush maintained the lead until a questionable handball call in the box gave Castro Valley the opportunity to score off the penalty kick. “The team performed well in the first weekend of spring league, I’m excited to be working with such a talented group of players” said coach Stuart Rafferty.
