In the midst of 3 games over the weekend, the WCS 09 Earthquakes scored a pair of goals in the last 90 seconds to tie Benicia Arsenal 3-3. Yusif Khalil scored twice and Spencer Halasz tallied a goal to carry the Quakes to a home draw. The 09 Quakes, made up of U6, U7, and U8 players are competing in their first season as a competitive team against primarily U8 opponents. Suraj Hothi, Kireet Manekar, and Daniel Ramos worked hard both on offense and defense throughout the weekend. Omar Sharif, Dinolen Shang, and Neel Bollu impressed with their variety of moves and feints. In the early match, playing one short due to absences and vacations, the Quakes lost 6-0 to Castro Valley. On Sunday, the Quakes again showed a variety of skills but fell to an older San Ramon team 4-0.
“The boys continue to improve each match,” said Coach Scott Schoenthal. “We’ve been encouraging them to use skills, develop passing techniques, and show confidence on the ball. Our guys don’t give up and this showed throughout the weekend.”
