West Coast’s premier 06 girls team, Krossfire, was slated for a first round rematch with crosstown rival Livermore Fusion, but this time the Nor Cal Premier 3 State Cup was on the line. Recent illnesses to Krossfire players and head coach wouldn’t be an excuse for Krossfire as they came out putting pressure on the Fusion defense, firing multiple shots on goal. The 21st minute saw Dakota Baird feed Sophia Simonds who netted the Krossfire goal. Krossfire took a 1-0 lead into halftime. Krossfire midfielders tandem Alana Albarran, Dakota Baird, and Sophia Simonds along with defenders Adriana Paneda, Ariana Butler, Brittany Hahn, Madylin Harrell, and Paige McLean would prove to be a defensive force field, giving up only a handful of shots that were comfortable saves for goalkeeper Jennessa Maselli. Krossfire’s offense of Kendra Riddiough, Summer Lane, and Gabby Carlton kept pressure on the Fusion defense creating multiple scoring chances.
Krossfire stayed strong the entire game earning the 1-0 victory. This win completed Krossfire’s 2017-2018 State Cup run, bringing home the Premier 3 gold. “These young ladies played great, it was a pleasure coaching them for Marlon while he was out sick.” -Coach Stuart Rafferty. “We have a fantastic 06 girls age group and team, they will continue to develop here in the club and will be a force for years to come.” Said West Coast Director of Soccer Troy Dayak.
Next up for Krossfire is the Copita Surf Cup Qualifier tournament in Sunnyvale March 10-11.
