05 Wildkatz sweep Torneo Dei Presidenti tournament

During the weekend of February 17th-18th, West Coast Soccer Club’s U13 girls team WildKatz 05 competed in the 2018 Il Torneo Dei Presidenti hosted by Juventus Soccer Club in Redwood City, Ca. WildKatz started the tournament with a match against CenCal Cosmos 05 Grey. WildKatz took control of the game from the first whistle and just three minutes into the game, Zusette Zamora put in the first goal of the game for WildKatz. Zamora’s goal was followed quickly by a goal by Cameron Silva. Jayden Morton sent the ball to the back of the net from the top of the goalie box to give WildKatz a 3-0 lead at half. Morton would start the second half just as she did the first, with another goal for WildKatz. Defender Madison Reid sent the ball soaring over the Cosmos’ goalie from just past the half field line. One more goal from WildKatz by Kamiryn Grimes sealed the victory with a 6-0 win. In the second game of the tournament, Wildkatz met Atletico Santa Rosa Sevilla under the lights for an evening match. WildKatz started with several shots on goal, but a shot by Cameron Silva gave WildKatz the lead. Silva would follow with another goal followed by two goals by Kamiryn Grimes and the WildKatz would lead Sevilla 4-0 at the half. WildKatz would continue to dominate play as the defense kept Sevilla from getting any shots on goal. Silva would earn the hat trick with two more goals as well as a goal from Nadia Sherman giving WildKatz the 7-0 victory. In the second day of tournament play, WildKatz met California Thorns. The match was much like the previous matches, with WildKatz dominating play. Savannah Cordero would get the WildKatz first goal of the game quickly in the first half. A goal by Zusette Zamora would put the WildKatz up by two to end the first half. Nadia Sherman would find the net early in the second half followed by goals by Karlee Lywandowsky and another by Zamora to give the WidlKatz the 5-0 win over Thorns. In the final match of the tournament, WildKatz met San Jose Earthquakes 05 Pre-DA 1 WildKatz again controlled the match from the first whistle. With continuous shots on goal, WildKatz couldn’t seem to get the ball into the net. With minutes left in the first half, Nadia Sherman sent the ball into the net on a cross from Cameron Silva. In the second half of play, Jayden Morton completed a header from a corner kick from Savannah Cordero to put the WildKatz up 2-0. One more goal by Sherman with seconds left in the match, gave WildKatz to 3-0 victory and sealed their 1st place finish. WildKatz defense, led by Madison Reid, Jasmine Staples, Taryn Richey, Sydney Goodwin, Makenna Galvan, Alexia Berlin, Makenna Ross, Sutton Dennyand goalie Isabella Gelao, gave the team four perfect shut-outs allowing no goals scored against. WildKatz defense allowed merely a handful of shots on goal from opposing teams for the entire weekend. Next up for WildKatz is the continuation of NorCal Premier Winter League with a match against San Juan Spirits on February 24th.
