05 Wildkatz finish 1st in Spring League

NorCal Spring League play, the West Coast Wildkatz 05 girls found themselves with the challenge of a late game Friday night followed by an early morning game the following day.  Friday evening Wildkatz took to the field at Las Positas College to face Mustangs Elite.  As the sun set, the game quickly went Mustang’s way as they scored early.  The teams battled back and forth but Wildkatz were able to tie the game when Katie Strong found the net.  A high flying goal by Emma Colmenero gave the Wildkatz the lead 2-1 before the end of the first half. Wildkatz defense held Mustang scoreless and the Wildkatz took the win and secured first place in Spring League.

In a early game Saturday, May 20th Wildkatz traveled to Los Altos to face the only to team to give them a loss in Spring League, MVLA United.  The game started with both teams’ defense shutting down any goal attempts. Quickly after the start of the second half, Katie Strong dribbled the ball toward the goal through many defenders and sent the ball into the upper corner of the net to give the Wildkatz the lead 1-0.  Shortly after the first goal, Strong found Cameron Silva in front of MVLA’s goal and Silva tapped the ball in and the Wildkatz were up 2-0.  Emma Colmenero battled through traffic and give the Wildkatz another goal.  The Wildkatz continued to dominate and Silva scored again on a cross form Karlee Lywandowsky.  With just seconds to go in play, Zusette Zamora drove the ball through a group of defenders and sent the ball into the upper corner of the net.  The Wildkatz defense kept MVLA scoreless throughout the game and the team took home a 5-0 win to avenge their only loss of the season.  With a record of 9 wins and 1 loss, Wildkatz took first place in Spring League with 34 goals for and only 11 goals against. Coach Troy Dayak says “this young team is fun to coach, I’m excited to see them continue to develop” The Wildkatz will will travel to Davis for NorCal Cross-Regionals the weekend of June 3rd and 4th.
