05 Krush start strong in State Cup

The West Coast Krush U12 Girls team had strong showings in their two first-round State Cup games this past weekend.

Saturday’s game saw Krush playing against visiting Juventus SC 05G Black from Redwood City. Krush dominated the game from the offset, keeping the ball on Juventus’ side of the field for a majority of the first half. After several shot attempts on goal, Kaya Whittaker connected with Presley Perez, who scored the first goal of the game, giving Krush a 1-0 lead. Krush continued the control the pace of the game in the second half, even with Juventus playing more determined in the second half. Juventus determination paid off as they scored mid-way through the second half, after several blocked attempts in a row, tying the game at 1-1. Krush’s midfielders, led by Hailey Garvin, Daisy Tompkins & Makenna Galvan quickly took control of the game back, but Krush unable to score before time expired. Final score 1-1.

Krush’s second State Cup game of the weekend was against top-ranked NorCal team Pleasanton Rage Elite 1. As expected, this was a very physical, fast paced game, but Krush rose to the challenge and battled with Rage for the entire game. Krush was the first to score off a penalty kick made by Whittaker. Rage tied the game with three minutes left in the first, making the score 1-1 at half-time. Rage continued to try and take control of the game in the second half, but Krush kept pace with Rage with several shot attempts blocked by Goalie Jillian Barth, countered by several shot attempts by the Krush forwards and midfielders. The teams kept going back and forth before Rage scored their second, and final, goal of the game. Final score 2-1 Rage.
