05 Krush split a pair in Spring League

The West Coast Krush 05 Girls soccer team returned to the pitch this past weekend, after two week break, for two Spring League games.

Krush faced off against Union City Premier Fuego 05 Saturday morning in Krush’s first home game of the season. Fuego scored the first goal of the morning, but Krush responded minutes later, demonstrating great passing technique when defender KimmieKeller deflected a Fuego pass, sent the ball up the field to Chloe Thomas who passed the ball to Hailey-Ann Stubbles, Stubbles sent the ball back to Thomas who once again fed the ball back to Stubbles, creating the opportunity for Stubbles to shoot the ball past Fuego’s goalie for the score. A penalty play against Krushallowed Fuego to score once more, making the score 2-1 at half-time. Fuego scored twice more in the second half and although Krush played hard, they were unable to score again. Final score 4-1 Fuego.

Sunday afternoon Krush faced off against Richmond United Richmond Stars. Krush controlled the pace of the game from the start. Although Krush had several looks at Fuego’s net during the first half, it wasn’t until Fuego was called for a penalty in the box late in the half that Krush got on the scoreboard. Midfielder Emily Hollinghaus took the penalty kick for Krush and place the ball in the lower right-hand corner of the box, giving Krush the 1-0 lead going into halftime.

Krush continued to dominate the field in the second half, scoring twice more before the final whistle. Forward Hailey Garvin scored her first of two goals off a deflection from Richmond’s goalie, giving Krush the 2-0 lead. Krush put the game away for good when defender Kira Korsak sent a penalty kick up the field to forward Vanessa Gomez, who passed the ball to Garvin, creating the opportunity for Garvin to shoot the ball over Richmond’s goalie for Krush’s final goal of the game. Final score 3-0 Krush, with a shutout victory for goalie Grace Lagenfield, who had five saves in the game.
