03 Girls Kaos finish NPL season strong

The West Coast Kaos ’03 girls closed out their fall season with a strong finish in NPL league play.  The girls claimed two victories over the weekend against Diablo FC and Livermore Fusion to give them a solid 4 wins, 2 draws, and 1 loss record. Kaos will finish in one of the top two positions in their league division.

On Saturday in Concord, Kaos faced the Diablo FC NPL team.  Kaos went on the attack from the whistle. At the 34th minute, Defender Maddie Long dribbled the ball up the left side of the field into the Diablo midfield.  Long delivered a perfectly place ball at the feet of Kaos’ Forward, Anaya Shelton who was making a run up the middle.  Shelton delivered a shot into the right corner of the goal giving Kaos a 1-0 lead heading into the half.  In the second half, Shelton found two more scoring opportunities giving her 3 goals in the game and her first hat trick of the season.   Kaos easily walked away with the 3-1 victory over Diablo. Goal Keeper Ashley Levi is credited with the win.
On Sunday in Livermore, in a cross-town derby, Kaos faced a tough Livermore Fusion team.  Going into the match, Kaos knew they had to win the match for a chance to claim the league title.  At the 25th minute Kaos was awarded a corner kick.  Midfielder Katie Zeck sent a lobbing kick to Defender Kelsey Brumm who headed the ball toward the goal.  The ball bounced off a Fusion defender giving Shelton a chance to punch the ball in past the goalie. Determined not to let up, Forward Sammy Wilson and Winger Nicole Codington continued the offensive pressure as the first half wound down.  Kaos went into the half with a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Kaos’ defense and midfield completely shut down Fusion’s ability to get the ball to their strikers.  The Kaos’ backline of Kelsy Brumm, Gaby Casillas, Alondra Higareda, Maddie Long, Kiara Rodriguez and Peyton Wooten prevented any meaningful shots on goal.  The midfield of Alina Garcia, Kylee Gregory, Haylee Heffener, Daisy Samuelson, Alyssa Williams, and Katie Zeck controlled the ball and the tempo of the game.  With 72 minutes already gone, Kaos sealed the match with a corner kick from winger Jordyn Silva to Alina Garcia who received the ball and volleyed it into the left corner of the next.  Kaos went ahead 2-0 and claimed the victory.   Goal Keeper Maddie Mannina is credited with the shutout.
Next up for team Kaos is the Norcal National Premier League (NPL) college showcase in Davis, California.  The girls will also travel to the prestigious Surf College Showcase in Oceanside, California over Thanksgiving weekend.
