Notre Dame de Namur University goal keeper Abigail Cebrero shines in her final game as an Argo. Former West Coast goal keeper ended a stellar career at NDNU with a shut out against Conference Champions Cal Baptist. Cebrero kept NDNU undefeated in their last six conference games.
“Abigail was outstanding today said Head Coach Paul McCallion of Notre Dame de Namur University. “Some of the saves she made in the last two games were world class.” Cebrero was also fantastic on their road trip to Hawaii as she helped the Argo’s go undefeated in three games. “Abigail was a 4 year starter for us here at Notre Dame, she had a rock solid foundation coming from one of the top youth programs in the state, West Coast Soccer under the direction of Troy Dayak.”
Coach Dayak spotted Abigail at one of their club tryouts and felt she had amazing potential and offered her a position on the West Coast Katz. “Abi came to practice prepared to learn and eager for action, said Dayak, it did not surprise me to see her have such a wonderful college career but most importantly we were able to help Abigail get recruited and now she will have an incredible education for a lifetime ahead.”
Abigail was quick to praise her development path. “Up until playing for West Coast, I had lost hope that I would ever play college soccer. West Coast put me in a competitive position to receive offers from schools. In May of 2018, I will graduate with a degree in Biochemistry after being a 4 year starter for Notre Dame de Namur.”
“Abigail developed very fast with us here at West Coast Soccer. This is where she honed her goalkeeper skill and presence, the ability to manage her team and transform from just a shot stopper to a complete goalkeeper” said West Coast Soccer GK Director Dominic Figueroa.
West Coast Soccer Club has sent 100 percent of their goalkeepers to the next level since their inception in 2011. Abigail, along with other West Coast goalkeepers have had similar stories, last week Amanda Valentine (Vanguard University) was honored as 2017 GSAC college conference player of the year and Jessica Lima (UC Davis) has recently been contacted by the Portuguese national team.
“We are blessed with an outstanding coaching staff here at West Coast Soccer. Our staff coaches are determined to help our players reach their goals and they support our club culture to develop top flight players” says Director of Coaching Troy Dayak.
